A Magical Engagement Session with Ivy and Andy

One of the things I’ve come to love about photography is meeting new people and learning about their love stories. Whenever I meet a new couple, I always prioritize their comfort by getting to know them in between shots so we can capture their love in a way that feels natural and genuine. I never want my couples to feel like they’re forcing themselves into awkward and uncomfortable poses. Being in love is fun and organic, so that’s exactly how I want them to feel during our session.

My engagement session with Ivy and Andy was no exception. Within the hour we had together, we not only took some gorgeous photos, but we also got to know each other enough to make the experience fun and memorable.

Despite this being an engagement shoot, Ivy and Andy were actually already married! They had a breathtaking elopement in Colorado months prior, but still wanted to plan a more traditional wedding experience, including an engagement shoot. I think this is such an awesome idea for couples that want to have a more intimate experience for their wedding but still want to celebrate this milestone with their families.

Like my last couple’s session, I met with Ivy and Andy at the beautiful Maymont Park in Richmond, VA (you can read about my last session and learn about Maymont on this blog post). I knew I wanted to go for a moodier vibe with them, so I chose to primarily take their photos down by the Japanese gardens where there were a bunch of little sun spots bursting through the trees. While it was a Saturday afternoon and there were lots of visitors and photographers out, we still captured some stunning photos.

You can check out more from their session here!

Ivy and Andy were such a cool couple and were a dream to photograph. I am SO excited to join them on their big day next fall and to continue witnessing the beginning of their new chapter together.
